Practical guide

Choosing signage for facades and interiors

Good signage starts with the location: the substrate, viewing distance, moisture and sunlight, and whether it must be visible at night. These conditions determine the material, construction and installation.

Illuminated signs in different shapes and constructions

Metal advertising signs with company logos and lettering

Example: one logo in two locations

Interior reception. The logo is viewed close up, so small details and finish matter. Check the wall, available space and whether stand-off fixing is needed for a dimensional effect.

Exterior facade. The same logo must read from farther away and withstand outdoor conditions. Small text may need to be removed, the size increased and the fixing designed for the facade. For night visibility, discuss illuminated construction and power supply.

Do not automatically reuse an interior sign file or construction on a facade. Send a photograph of the location with approximate dimensions and indicate the viewing direction.

What to prepare for a quote

  1. 1

    Photographs and dimensions

Photograph the location from the front and side. Give the desired width and height and note obstacles such as cables, canopies or plants.

  2. 2

    Substrate and access

Tell us whether installation is on concrete, brick, metal, plasterboard or another substrate and at what working height.

  3. 3

    Artwork and illumination

Send vector logo artwork if available and specify whether illumination is needed and where the power supply is located.

Common questions

What sign size do I need?

It depends on viewing distance, content and available space. A photograph with facade or wall dimensions enables a better recommendation than choosing a standard size alone.

Can any sign be illuminated?

No. Illumination requires a suitable construction, components, power supply and access for installation and maintenance. It must be planned before production.
